Why is the once most popular suona craftsman now looked down upon?
As one of the most distinctive musical instruments in China, the suona actually did not originate in China, but spread from Persia and Arabia. Surnā, an ancient Persian transliteration of suona, was also translated into Pinna, Chanai, Surnai and other names in ancient times.
Suona was introduced into Xinjiang from Persia during the Three Kingdoms period. For a long time, suona was sold out of stock. It was not until the Jin and Yuan Dynasties that suona gradually spread to the Central Plains, but it was still not very popular. It began to spread slowly in the Ming Dynasty, and gradually became one of the essential instruments of traditional Chinese opera music at the end of the Ming Dynasty. But the real prosperity of suona art was in the Qing Dynasty.
Until the first half of the 20th century, suona was still one of the most popular folk musical instruments. Whether it is weddings, funerals, festivals, songs and dances, and opera performances, suona can be used, but its position in white affairs is irreplaceable.
Suona craftsmen held a high position in the past. There is a very good suona craftsman in Shiliba village. This profession is envied by everyone, not only making money, but also being respected. At that time, the skill of suona was a very high skill and spread among the people. Craftsmen's skills are passed down from men to women, and the conditions for accepting apprentices are extremely harsh.
However, with the progress of society and the development of science and technology, electronic music has become popular, and folk weddings and funerals are no longer the world of suona. People invited pop song and dance troupes to perform in the village. Under the impact of pop song and dance troupes, the market of suona has been infinitely compressed, until now it has become a supporting role of Bai Shi.
Now the status of suona craftsman can be said to have fallen directly from heaven to hell. In recent years, we have carried out the policy of changing customs in rural areas, calling on everyone to be simple in handling weddings, funerals and weddings, and prohibiting extravagance and waste, especially doing white things. No banquets, colored sheds, suona and drums are allowed.
Under the call of the country, most of them keep everything simple. Although some people employ suona drum music, the number and scale are far less than before. Under such constraints, the living space of suona craftsmen is infinitely compressed, and they will soon face the risk of unemployment. Today's younger generation, basically no one wants to learn to play suona, and suona craftsmen will not let their children continue to engage in this profession.
However, suona is a traditional skill in China. It deserves better inheritance and development. As descendants of the Chinese people, we have the obligation and necessity to preserve the original appearance of these traditional skills for future generations.
