Similarities and differences between classical music and modern music.

Let me give my opinion. I only compare foreign music here.

First of all, classical music (symphony) has been circulating in the royal court for a long time. At that time, many composers of classical music wrote for court dances. At that time, pop music accompanied by country dances was very popular in Europe. Later, from 18 to 19 century, these folk music gradually entered the court. Therefore, the development of classical music is greatly influenced by the court. On the other hand, modern music is completely different. The progress and development of society, the weakening of class level and the rapid development of science and technology make music creation more free and have a wider audience. This may be the reason why many people don't want to listen or feel that they don't understand classics.

Second, the writing of classical music is a huge project, which mainly lies in complicated and strict rules and regulations. Orchestration and composition are regular, and even the final version can only be finalized after careful calculation. Take the Blue Danube, the most famous waltz of the Strauss family, as an example. This waltz follows a typical trilogy structure of presentation-expansion-reappearance. In contrast, the composition of modern music is free and easy. Pick any jazz or rock, and 99% won't show-unfold-reproduce three songs. Some tracks don't even have traditional themes. If such modern music were put in Vienna in the past, it would certainly be attacked by groups.

Thirdly, classical music emphasizes the music itself, because many classical music is written for the ball, while modern music emphasizes the human voice. So it is understandable that concerts are completely different from concerts.
