What is charity?
China's charity thought has a long history, and hundred schools of thought in pre-Qin period had incisive exposition on it. For example, in the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu said: goodness is like water, and water conservancy is used by all things without dispute. Confucius and Mencius once said: old people are safe, friends believe, and those who are young are pregnant; Old me and old people, young me and young people; Be friends inside and outside, help each other, help each other in sickness and health.
The word charity is translated into FHILANTHROPY in English, which comes from ancient Greek and means love for people. It has been used since about18th century. There is also a word charity, which also means kindness. This word has a long history, dating back to BC. Its original meaning is love.
