Cities in Jiangsu's Suzhou North: Traditionally, Suzhou North refers to the five prefecture-level cities of Yangzhou, Taizhou, Yancheng, Huai'an, and Nantong in Jiangsu Province, and according to the administrative division that prevails in Jiangsu nowadays, the Suzhou North region includes five provincial municipalities, namely Xuzhou, Lianyungang, Suqian, Huai'an, and Yancheng.
North Jiangsu, short for the northern part of Jiangsu, is located in the Yangtze River Delta with Shanghai as the leader, and is an important part of China's coastal economic belt. The terrain of northern Jiangsu is dominated by plains, with the vast northern Suzhou Plain, the river and the sea, the Huaihuai Lake, economic prosperity, and well-developed transportation.
Jiangsu, abbreviated as "Jiangsu", with its capital Nanjing, is located in the center of the eastern coast of mainland China, between longitude 116°18′~121°57′ east and latitude 30°45′~35°20′ north. It was founded in 1667 AD as a result of the division of Jiangnan Province into east and west, and got its name from the first word of "Jiangning Province" and "Suzhou Province".

It has four diversified cultures, namely Wu, Jinling, Huaiyang and Zhongyuan, and is one of the birthplaces of ancient Chinese civilization. Geographically, Jiangsu straddles the north and south, and its climate and vegetation are characterized by both the south and the north. Jiangsu is bordered by the Yellow Sea and the Pacific Ocean to the east, and shares borders with Shanghai Municipality, Zhejiang Province, Anhui Province and Shandong Province, as well as with the islands of Kyushu in Japan, Jeju in South Korea, and California, the largest state in the U.S., with which it has already concluded a sister-province-state relationship, and set up the "Jiangsu Province-California" Joint Economic Commission.
