What Buddhism is practiced in Myanmar
Myanmar is a multi-religious country. The main religions practiced by the Burmese are Buddhism, primitive fetishism and deity worship, Islam, Hinduism and Christianity. The most widely practiced religion and practiced by the majority of Burmese is Theravada Buddhism, commonly known as Hinayana Buddhism. Theravada Buddhism is the national religion of Myanmar.
Burmese Buddhism has long been closely associated with Burmese politics. At the same time, it has also exerted a deep influence on Burmese culture, whether it is language and writing, culture and education, or literature and art, architecture and art, handicrafts and so on, have absorbed and integrated a large number of Buddhist culture. The three main schools of Buddhist monasticism in Burma today are the Dodamo, Shwe Keng, and Dharmapala schools, which are generally the same in their teaching of the Tripitaka Sacred Texts, with only a few differences in their precepts, especially with regard to the use of material objects, dress code, and rituals of life. The first two are traditional sectarian organizations with a large number of monks; the Dharmapala school was founded the latest, around the end of the 19th century, by the old Dharmapala school reformed, the precepts advocate the strict practice of the smallest number of monks.
According to the general custom in Burma, when a man is 14 or 15 years old, he must enter a monastery for a short period of time to become a monk. In Buddhism in various countries, the test system for monks in Myanmar is the most stringent, those who pass the test of the Law Collection are the holders of the law; those who pass all the three collections are the Tripitaka masters, which is the highest honor of the monks in Myanmar.
