Origin: Taoist ritual tokens originated from the tiger talisman used by the ancient Chinese army to issue orders.
"Tao Shu Aiding Shen Deed" has the "token" item, ""Zhou Li", tooth Zhang is used to start the military. The upper circle of the Han bronze tiger talisman is engraved with five teeth, as if hanging down. The inscription on the back is a sitting tiger.
The inscription next to it says: "It is like the ancient Yazhang, used as a tiger talisman to summon generals. This is the method."
Function: Taoist tokens are mostly made of wood or metal, rectangular and block-shaped, with graphics and text carved or cast on six sides.
The "Shangqing Lingbao Jidu Dacheng Golden Book" of the Ming Dynasty contains pictures and texts of the Five Thunder Tokens.
The front of the picture is engraved with the body of a dragon and a pan sword, and on the back there are thunder runes that read: The right token is made of lightning-struck jujube wood. It is five inches long, two inches wide, and five minutes thick.
Choose an auspicious day, make it according to the pattern, publish the names of the twenty-eight constellations on the four sides, and hold it in a brocade bag.
When performing rituals, Taoist priests often bang tokens on the ritual altar to represent gods or masters, issue orders, call for wind and rain, summon gods and generals, descend to the altar, escort the souls of the dead, or exorcise evil spirits and suppress demons.
