Characteristics of shangri-la dialogue
Shangri-la dialogue is characterized by multilateralism. In the Asia-Pacific region, traditional security issues still exist, and disputes over territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests have not been resolved. However, the influence of non-traditional security issues such as terrorism, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, transnational organized crime, piracy, natural disasters, ecological damage, major accidents and biological diseases is on the rise and has become a common threat to all countries in the Asia-Pacific region. These threats are not only related to international security, but also to national stability and the safety of people's lives and property, but they are far from being dealt with by a country alone.
Multilateral approach is an effective way to discuss and solve security problems. Asia-Pacific countries can strengthen exchanges on multilateral platforms, reach mutual understanding and form the basis of cooperation and security. Although shangri-la dialogue is a developing security forum, it needs constant improvement and maturity, but its multilateral characteristics should be continued.
