Traditional characteristics of Tongans

Christianity has been widely believed since the middle of19th century. According to legend, its ancestors began to move here from Southeast Asia more than 2,500 years ago. In the past, Tongans used high technology to make tools for stones, wood, bones and shellfish, and developed production. Tongans are mostly engaged in tropical agriculture, good at sailing, able to build large catamarans and often trade with neighboring islands. Social and cultural life is influenced by external factors. Most houses in cities are European-style buildings, and urban residents wear European-style clothes. The vast rural areas still retain strong national characteristics, especially like traditional song and dance and entertainment activities.
