Introduction of Nuo mask

Nuo mask is an important part of Nuo culture of Han nationality, which is used in Nuo instrument, Nuo dance and Nuo opera. There are many kinds of Nuo masks with different shapes, all of which are carved from willow and camphor wood, and then painted, which looks rough, simple and magnificent. Nuo mask is a traditional craft of Han nationality, which is called energy face in Japan. The Nuo masks in eastern Hunan and Luxi inherited the Nuo carving skills in Song Dynasty. In May 2006, the Nuo masks in Pingxiang and Xiangdong were listed as the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage. 1 Lai Mingde Chu Shi, the creator of 440 Nuo masks in the World Heritage Application, is the inheritor of the "Nuo carving skills passed down from three generations to the Song Dynasty" in the project description. In 2007, Dejiang Nuo Mask was selected into the intangible cultural heritage list of Guizhou Province, and the inheritor was Wang Guohua. In 2008, Luxi Nuo mask was selected into the second batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage list in Hunan Province. 5.
