The origin and development of Dai pottery-making technology
Folk handicrafts are an important part of the traditional culture of ethnic minorities and occupy a very important position in their production and life. Dai people are ingenious, especially good at making pottery, brocade, bamboo weaving, paper making, sugar pressing and other folk handicrafts. Dai pottery has a long history, which originated in the Neolithic Age and has a history of more than 3,000 years. Up to now, they still maintain the technique of slowly adding mud sticks to make pottery. Under the tide of global economic integration, traditional culture has been destroyed. As far as pottery technology is concerned, the crafts of other nationalities have either evolved into large-scale rapid production or disappeared in the long river of history, and pottery has been replaced by modern industrial products. In this context, the folk pottery-making technology of the Dai people continues in a flowing state, and it also presents a new development trend. Through the investigation and analysis of Dai folk pottery in Xishuangbanna, this paper attempts to explore the psychological characteristics of Dai culture and society behind pottery, as well as the influence of mainstream culture in China society on pottery, so as to explore the deep-seated reasons for the existence and change of Dai pottery, thus deepening the understanding of Dai traditional culture and national psychology. This is of typical significance for studying the protection of intangible cultural heritage of ethnic minorities, and also has certain reference significance for the protection of intangible cultural heritage of other ethnic minorities. In this study, two Dai villages, Mandou and Mange, in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna, were selected as field investigation points.
