Burning King Boat Festival Taiwan's southwest coast, one of the famous folk festival, the original intention to send the God of the Plague out to sea, has evolved into a prayer for peace and blessings of the activities. Held once every three years, the Donggang King Boat Festival is held in Donglong Palace, Donggang Township, Pingtung County in September of the lunar calendar, and the Xigang King Boat Festival is held in Qing'an Palace, Xigang Township, Tainan County in mid-April of the lunar calendar. Among them, the Donggang King Boat burning scene is the most lively and grand, known throughout Taiwan, in addition to the temple activities, the last day of the King Boat burning ceremony is the climax of the entire festival.
Aboriginal CeremoniesThe aboriginal people of Taiwan are divided into 13 major ethnic groups, including the Amis, Atayal, Peinan, Bunun, Paiwan, Dawu, Rukai, Tsou, Saixia, Shao, Kavalan, Taroko, and Sachilea, and they often express their respect for the heavens and earth, ghosts, and spirits through ceremonies, rituals, songs, dances, and athletic competitions. For example, the Ami's Fruitful Year Festival, the Saisiat's Short Spirit Festival, the Bunun's Ear Punching Festival, the Peinan's Annual Festival, and the Dawu's Flying Fish Festival are all very distinctive and have great tourist value.
Mazu paradeThere are more than 870 Mazu temples all over Taiwan***. Whenever Mazu's birthday occurs in March of the lunar calendar, temples all over Taiwan, such as Dajia Zhenlan Palace in Taichung County, Lugang Tienhou Temple in Changhua County, Beigang Chautian Temple in Yunlin County, Xingang Fengtian Temple in Chiayi County, and Daitianhou Temple in Tainan City, will expand their activities of holding festivals, incense invitations, and parades, etc., with Dajia Zhenlan Palace in Taichung County in particular having the longest and grandest history of the Mazu parade. Among them, the parade of A-Ma in Dajia Zhenlan Temple in Taichung County has the longest history and the largest scale.
