Huang Tingjian's Poetry Theory and Creative Characteristics

Huang Tingjian, the leader of the "Jiangxi School of Poetry," has not been fairly evaluated by the academic community for his poetry as he has been for his calligraphy. Since the Southern Song Yan Yu wrote "Canglang Poetry" to the Song poetry greatly depreciated, for a long time, Huang Tingjian's poetry has been criticized as formalism and cold, until the early 80's of this century, this situation has been reversed. However, the academic community or for Huang Tingjian "to take the skin and bones", "vulgar for elegant, the old for the new" and other claims of the argument; or Huang Tingjian's philosophical thinking, such as praise and criticism; or on the creation of its achievements and failures to evaluate the publication of a number of essays, but so far has not seen the release of a monograph. This may be enlightening and helpful for us to accurately grasp the aesthetic characteristics of Song poetry, to establish its position in the history of Chinese poetry, and to discuss and correctly evaluate the "Jiangxi School of Poetry" and especially Huang Tingjian's poetry at that time and in later times why it had such a significant impact. As for Huang Tingjian's noble personality, the demonstration of the operability of the poetry method, no doubt, even today, on our life, literary creation, are not without significance.
