How should tonsil stones be taken out?

Cleaning can be done in the following two ways:

1. gargle

Gargling with salt water can relieve throat discomfort. Salt water can change chemicals in the mouth, help remove stones and improve oral odor.

Manual removal

It is generally not recommended for patients to take out stones with hard objects such as toothbrushes, because the tissues around tonsils are very fragile. If you really need to try to remove stones yourself, you can gently scrape them off with a cotton swab.

The prevention methods of tonsillar stones include the following three items:

1. Drink more water.

When the mouth is dry, foreign bodies are easy to remain in the recess. Drinking more water helps to remove bacteria from the mouth and improve the odor.

Clean the mouth

Be sure to rinse your mouth after eating to remove bacteria in your mouth and avoid stones.

3. Prevent gastroesophageal reflux

Gastroesophageal reflux may also be one of the causes of stones, so eating less irritating food, avoiding excessive abdominal pressure (wearing loose clothes and losing weight), not lying down immediately after eating, and not eating for 3 hours before going to bed are all helpful to prevent gastroesophageal reflux.
