Introduction of Automatic Weather Station
Automated Weather Station (AWS) is an automated version of a conventional weather station, either to save manpower or to measure airborne data in remote areas. The system allows real-time reporting through the Argos system1 and global telecommunication systems, or stored data for later transmission. Automatic weather stations are often placed within power and communication networks. Now, solar panels, wind turbines and cell phone technology are enabling automated weather stations to transmit data wirelessly, outside of the power and communications networks.
