What is a gentleman?

On how to deal with the relationship between people, Confucius sorted out "benevolence, righteousness, courtesy, wisdom and faith" ("five permanent members") as the standard of "gentleman" according to tradition. "Faith" refers to credit, which literally means "people's words", which means being responsible for what you promise. The word "faith" is placed at the end of the "five permanent members" and represents the most basic moral standards. The moral principle is responsibility. If a person "breaks his word", it shows that he is not willing to be responsible for his words and deeds at all. "Wisdom" means that when dealing with things and interpersonal relationships, you must use wisdom instead of emotions to make decisions, especially not to let anger control you. When your anger rises, you must remind yourself to "be calm for a while and take a step back." "Rite" refers to the norms of words and deeds when people communicate with each other. It has two functions, one is to show mutual respect between people, and the other is to keep a proper distance between people. Many young people watch Hong Kong underworld movies too much, always "become sworn brothers" and say "what to do for friends", all of which belong to "little people" who live in a daze. -Confucius said: "Only women are difficult to raise. If you are a close relative, you won't have grandchildren. If you are far away, you will complain. " (from the Analects of Confucius, "disloyalty" means rudeness) Meaning is simply a kind of responsibility, which is a person's responsibility to family, friends, society and country. The word "ingratitude" is usually used with "ingratitude". Quite simply, you don't want to be responsible for anyone who has been kind to you, let alone others. "Benevolence", as the highest standard of "gentleman", refers to compassion for the suffering of others and actively helping others get rid of suffering, which is actually compassion in Buddhism.
