What is Max Weber's theory of three powers?

Weber believes that any organization must be based on some form of power. Without some form of power, no organization can achieve its goals. In human society, there are three kinds of power accepted by society:

:: Traditional authority: derived from traditional customs or heredity;

* charisma authority: worship and follow from others;

* Legal authority: rationality-the power stipulated by law. For traditional power, Weber believes that people obey it because leaders occupy the power position supported by tradition, and at the same time, leaders are also restricted by tradition. However, people's obedience to traditional power is not based on the order that has nothing to do with individuals, but on personal loyalty in the field of customary obligations. The role of leaders seems to be only to maintain tradition, so it is inefficient.

The legitimacy of extraordinary power depends entirely on the belief in the leader, who must win followers with constant miracles and heroic actions. Extraordinary power is too emotional and irrational, not based on rules and regulations, but on mysterious revelation. Therefore, the form of extraordinary power is not suitable as the basis of administrative organization system.

Weber believes that only legal power can be the basis of administrative organization system, and its most fundamental feature is to provide prudent justice. The reasons are as follows: (1) The continuity of management makes management activities have to be carried out in an orderly manner. (2) The selection method based on "ability" provides a rational basis. (3) The leader's power is not unlimited and should be limited.
