Basic skills of Shaolin boxing

The basic skills of Shaolin boxing are as follows:

The basic hand types of Shaolin boxing can be divided into four types: fist, palm, hook and claw.

Boxing: put your fingers together, bend into the heart of the fist and hold it tightly, and seal your thumb in the eye of the fist. Some are like long fists, pressing the second finger of the index finger and middle finger with the thumb. This kind of boxing is called Warring Boxing in Shaolin Boxing. Its characteristic is that it can not only prevent the thumb from breaking, but also facilitate the use of hanging and tying techniques.

Palm: that is, the thumb is straight, and the other four fingers are slightly extended and slightly flexed, like a hook rather than a hook. The palm shape of Changquan is that the four fingers are straight and close together, and the thumb is bent against the root of the index finger.

This kind of palm is called claw palm in Shaolin palm, and its characteristic is that it can not only change the hand shape quickly, but also facilitate hooking. The other palm shape is that the five fingers are straight and close together, the thumb is bent and the other four fingers are straight and close together. The palm is adducted, and the palm is slightly turtle-backed, so it is also called turtle-backed palm.

Hook: that is, the index finger, middle finger, ring finger and little finger are slightly unfolded, and the thumb is attached to the second joint of the middle finger and bent backwards to form a hook. Changquan is a fist with five fingers together and the wrist flexed. This kind of hook is called Diao hook in Shaolin boxing, which is characterized by not only changing the hand shape quickly, but also helping to hook the belt.

Claw: the fingers are open, the knuckles are slightly bent inward, bending into a claw shape, and the wrist joints are bent back hard to expose the claw heart.
