What is Flower Drum Opera?

Hunan ancient painting drama developed from folk songs, minor tunes and ancient paintings. Changsha ancient painting drama is an influential one among many ancient painting dramas with Changsha Mandarin as the language. Although Changsha ancient painting drama has been officially dismissed as a "slutty drama" before the founding of New China, it is still very active in the vast rural areas.

Changsha is divided into Sichuan, Gong and minor tunes. It has a strong flavor of life and belongs to Qupai couplets.

Accompaniment instruments of Changsha Opera mainly include suona, Tanggu and Gong. Later, in order to increase its musical effect, Erhu, Sanxian and Pipa were added.

There are more than 300 kinds of traditional operas in Changsha Huagu Opera, among which the "Three Little" operas (Xiao Sheng, Xiao Dan and Clown) are the most important. After the founding of New China, these dramas were excavated, sorted out and adapted, and a number of new dramas were created, among which Liu Hai Chopped firewood.
