The difference between glutinous rice balls and Yuanxiao.

Although Yuanxiao and Tangyuan are both traditional festival foods in China, I think they are obviously different in areas, eating time and occasions, making techniques, shapes, tastes and fillings.

Yuanxiao is very popular in the north, while tangyuan is more common in the south. The making process of Yuanxiao is to roll glutinous rice flour and dip it in water, and glutinous rice balls are stuffing. Yuanxiao is small and has a hard taste. Black and white sesame seeds and peanuts are filled with sugar, and the color is mostly white or light yellow. Tangyuan is big, soft and glutinous, with rich choices of fillings and different colors depending on the ingredients.
