Please give four examples of common consulting methods of behaviorism.

Four commonly used counseling methods of behaviorism are listed and shared as follows: systematic desensitization, drowning therapy, aversion therapy, positive reinforcement method and regression method.

Systematic desensitization method: the therapist helps the patient to establish a relaxation conditioned reflex that is opposite to the bad behavior reaction, and then uses the learned relaxation state to suppress the anxiety reaction in contact with the conditions that cause this behavior, so that the bad behavior gradually fades away (desensitization) and finally corrects the bad behavior. Systematic desensitization method includes relaxation training, making anxiety scale and desensitization treatment. The main indications are neurosis such as terror, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Submergence therapy: let patients face (or imagine) an environment that can produce strong anxiety and keep it for a period of time. The patient is not allowed to escape. Because the process of anxiety has a fluctuating process of beginning, peak and decline, it can finally eliminate anxiety and prevent the occurrence of conditional avoidance behavior. Use with caution in patients with severe cardiovascular diseases, asthma and ulcers.

Aversion therapy: giving aversion stimulation immediately after a specific behavior reaction will eventually inhibit and eliminate this behavior. When patients have bad behavior, they will be given painful stimuli such as electric shock and vomiting, which will reverse their illness and produce disgust. It is suitable for treating drug addiction, sexual perversion and alcohol dependence.

Positive reinforcement regression method: if you get a reward after your behavior, this behavior will continue and appear repeatedly under the same environmental conditions, which belongs to positive reinforcement method. If no strengthening measures are taken, the frequency of this kind of behavior will be reduced, that is, it will be gradually eliminated. It is suitable for treating eating disorder, acquired bad behavior and abnormal behavior of patients with intellectual development.
