In the 28th year of Wanli (1600), Tang Xianzu resigned and returned to his hometown Linchuan County, Jiangxi Province. He is 49 years old. He heard and recorded the love experiences of some young men and women in his life, which inspired his creative feelings. Soon after he returned to his hometown, he began to write Peony Pavilion.
