Folk saying is that it is shaped like a tiger or a lion, and the two front rooms are the two front legs of a tiger and a lion. The architectural circle calls this pattern "three-heyuan".

Because of the different entrances and exits, Xiashanhu can be divided into main entrance and side entrance. Usually there is no main entrance in the middle, and side entrances on both sides are called "Dragon and Tiger Gate". However, there are also entrances with both main entrance and side entrances, and the side entrance is called water gate.

Xiashanhu is the most common type of housing built in rural areas. It has a living room, a large room, a small room and a patio, and is a self-contained system.

It is very convenient for celebrations, sacrifices, raising livestock and poultry, storing crops, and drying clothes, and is the most popular among farmers.
