The Symbolic Meaning of Lotus

In Egypt, the word "lotus" refers to white lotus and Lan Lian, in India it refers to white and reddish lotus plants and nuts, but in many books it refers to water lilies in Central America. The creation myth of ancient Egypt also mentioned the lotus: it came from primitive soil, and the holy creator of the world (a handsome young man) rose from its calyx. This flower blooms at sunrise and closes at sunset. People used to associate it with the light from the sun god and the earth of the birth world. The fragrant orchid is more precious than the white lotus. It is the symbol of Nevertum, the patron saint of the young ancient city of Memphis. People call him "the god of fragrance", and Lan Lian is also called "beauty" (hence the French word "water lily"). In India, lotus is the most important symbol of spirit and art. Avalok-itesvara's incarnation is called "Padmapani", and the lotus symbolizes sympathy and pity. Lotus is also an important symbol of knowledge: knowledge leads to an eternal cycle of regeneration and nirvana. If we interpret the prayer of Tibetan Buddhism "Oh, the treasure in the lotus, Amen" from the perspective of Hinduism, we may use what we call "Freudianism": this is a metaphorical expression, implying the sexual combination of negative lotus and positive essence (spiritually). In many schools of yoga, the essence of yoga is collected from all parts of the body, and its symbol is that a person wears a crown of blooming lotus; In Taoism, this realm is symbolized by "golden flower" as "the most holy lotus". In China, lotus is also closely related to Buddhism. Lotus is clean, pure and fragrant. It has no branches, only a flower in the clearing. It proudly holds its head high. These qualities make the lotus a symbol of purity, one of the many "treasures" of Buddhism and Taoism, and also a symbol of He Xiangu among the Eight Immortals. When "he" (he) is a man's surname, it used to mean that the person with this surname is a Buddhist. Violet is often associated with cleanliness, because the word "Qing" is homophonic with "Qing" in Chinese; Because the word "lotus" is homophonic with "lotus" and "Lian", it often appears in words expressing congratulations and good wishes. It can be inferred that children holding lotus flowers mean "I wish you a rich life". In old China, ladies wrapped their feet in cloth to make a "curved face". People think that women walk and dance gracefully and beautifully.
