The Hunchun, China - Zarubino, Russia - Sokcho, South Korea route was opened on April 28, 2000. The "Dongchun" mixed passenger and cargo ship sailing on this route at that time could carry 530 passengers and transported 167 standard container; the land journey is 71 kilometers, the sea journey is 585 nautical miles, and the total running time is 19 hours (including 2 hours by road). This route is the shortest route connecting Northeast China, the Russian Far East and the east coast of South Korea, and is known as the "Golden Channel." In January 2010, this route was forced to cease sailing due to various reasons.
In 2013, after consultations, the three countries established Sterna Daya Shipping Co., Ltd. and restored the route, operated by the "New Blue Sea" mixed passenger and cargo ship. The ship has a length of 160 meters, a displacement of 16485 tons, and a transport capacity of 750 passengers and 182 containers:
The stable operation of the Hunchun-Zarubino, Russia-Sokcho, South Korea route has further driven South Korea's small commodities to enter my country's Northeast market and Russia's Far East market, and agricultural and sideline products and native products from the Northeast region to enter the Korean market.
