What is the provincial flower of Hunan?

The provincial flower of Hunan Province is the lotus. Lotus is a Ranunculaceae plant, also called water hibiscus. Its flowering period is from June to September, and it is red, pink, white and purple, or it is colored and edged. Lotus is generally distributed in Central Asia, West Asia, North America, India, China and other places. It is suitable for growing in relatively stable shallow water, lakes, swamps or ponds, and needs sufficient sunshine during the growing period.

Growth habit of lotus

Lotus is very sensitive to water loss. As long as you don't irrigate for three hours in summer, the lotus leaves planted in the water tank will be sluggish. If the water is stopped for one day, the lotus leaves will be burnt and the buds will wither. When the external environment is too dry, you can spray water around the plants for humidification. When cultivating lotus, we must ensure sufficient water.

In the early stage of lotus growth, the water layer should be controlled at about 3 cm. Too deep water is not conducive to raising soil temperature. If you use tap water, you'd better put it in another jar and dry it for a day or two. After winter, the pot soil should also be kept moist to prevent the lotus root from drying up due to lack of water.

In the vigorous growth period of lotus, if the leaves are found to turn yellow and thin, 0.5g urea per box can be mixed into mud and kneaded into balls of about 10g, and one in each pot is applied to the soil in the center of the pot.
