Origin of Bamboo Weaving in Ming Dow, Chengdu

Chengdu Plain is rich in bamboo, and all kinds of bamboo weaving and bamboo carving have naturally become wonderful works of Chengdu folk artists. The most representative ones are the bamboo weaves of Ming Dow, Chongzhou and Qionglai, and the bamboo carvings of Juyuan and Pixian in Dujiangyan.

Juyuan in Dujiangyan is represented by Gaoyuan, and Wang Xiaoxiu in Pixian uses bamboo as the basic material, carving pen containers, bird cages, cigarette sticks and other utensils with relief techniques. Skillful knife technique, vivid modeling and high ornamental value are exported to Hong Kong and Macao. Juyuan Town of Dujiangyan was also named as the hometown of folk art (bamboo carving) by Chengdu Cultural Bureau.

Bamboo weavers in Chongzhou and Qionglai first created a lacquer tire technology with halogen lacquer basin as the bottom and bamboo filaments woven according to the tire shape, and later developed into tin tires and porcelain tires. This handicraft is often used by local governments as a tribute to the imperial court. Qionglai's porcelain embryo bamboo weaving is also one of the best gifts for friends. Porcelain embryo bamboo weaving is beautiful and generous, which stands out among many bamboo weaving crafts in China.
