Yoga Notes - Chakras (chakra)

Chakra - ring, vortex, whirlpool

A vortex formed by the life energy in a specific area of the body, controlling the circulation of the life energy structure that pervades the body.

Each chakra is the equivalent of a switch that activates from the daily subconscious, or turns on certain behavioral patterns thoughts or emotional responses is the point where the body meets the mind and dominates the body's physical and mental functioning.

Formation

The left, right, and middle chakras form intersections at different places in the spinal cord, and these convergences form chakras. (Medically speaking, the seven chakra locations are equivalent to the plexus of nerves in the human spine, which are the hubs that control the movement of our bodies.) Described in yoga, these plexuses are represented by the number of petals, which correspond to the parasympathetic plexuses. From bottom to top they are:

Root Chakra (Undersea Chakra, Pure Truth Chakra)

Abdominal Chakra (True Knowledge Chakra, Reproductive Chakra)

Navel Chakra (Righteousness Chakra)

Heart Chakra (Benevolence Chakra)

Throat Chakra (Cosmos Chakra)

Eyebrow Chakra (Frontal Chakra, Forgiveness Chakra)

Parietal Chakra (Self-Realization Chakra)

Each of the chakras has its own unique characteristics and functions, and people use the lotus flower to symbolize energy centers, each with specific petals and unique colors.

The lotus flower symbolizes the three stages that a practitioner must go through in his or her spiritual quest: ignorance, aspiration, and enlightenment, representing spiritual growth from the lowest level of awareness to the highest level of consciousness.

The lotus petals engraved with the mandala of the Sanskrit seed and the seed cause of the Sanskrit letter represent different spiritual energies and manifestations.

These spiritual energies are connected to the chakras and the prana that directs the energy into them, and each chakra content has a 具, which has a geometric composition. It represents the relative elements and mandalas of that chakra. Inside each of the masks, there is a separate ruling deity representing a particular aspect of consciousness and a corresponding mount (animal form) representing other spiritual aspects of the particular chakra.

Of the seven chakras, the top two dominate the spiritual functions. The lower three chakras, transmit almost exclusively physical functions. The middle two chakras are performing mental, spiritual activities.

The higher chakras control the lower ones.

Meditation strengthens the higher chakras, making the mind finer, more expanded, and more adept at using the body for fine and sacred activities.
