This festival first appeared in ancient Greece; Modern Mother's Day originated in America, and it is the second Sunday in May every year. Mothers usually receive gifts on this day. From June 5438 to February 2006, China People's Association Festival Emblem Cultural Committee and other organizations designated the second day of the fourth lunar month, the day when Meng Mu was born with Mencius, as China Mother's Day.

From June 5438 to February 2006, four core sponsors of Mother's Day, namely, the Cultural Committee of Festival Emblem of China People's Association, Zoucheng Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, Beijing Oriental Moral College and Shijiazhuang Comprehensive Practice Base for Primary and Secondary School Students, formally established the "China Mother's Day Promotion Association", determined the second day of the fourth lunar month, when Mencius was born in Meng Mu, as China Mother's Day, and decided to hold a series of celebrations on the occasion of the arrival of the first Chinese mother.
