What are the steps in the production process of mahogany furniture?
Technology 1: log sawing board
After the logs are purchased, they should be cut and sawed first. Most mahogany furniture factories will send them to professional sawmills for processing (called row saws in some areas) and cutting them into plates with corresponding specifications.
When sawing plates, we should tailor the furniture according to the size, match the length and comprehensive utilization, and pay attention to the direction of wood grain. If you are perfunctory when sawing wood, it will cause serious waste and improper material matching.
Step 2: Dry the plate.
Because mahogany furniture is a kind of pure solid wood furniture, all its components are solid wood, and the moisture content of wood is directly related to the adaptability of furniture to seasonal changes, which in turn affects the quality of furniture. Therefore, the drying of wood is particularly important. If it is not dried properly, there will be various problems in the processing and assembly of parts in the future, which will affect the quality of finished products. Even in sales and use, the characteristics of wood shrinkage and expansion will cause various cracks or deformations in some parts of furniture.
Process 3: Woodworking process
After the plate is dried, it can enter the formal production process. This step is the most important step in the production of mahogany furniture, which is what mahogany furniture manufacturers call the woodworking process (in some areas, cutting and woodworking are traditionally separated into two major processes).
Process 4: Carving process
In order to make mahogany furniture look more beautiful, some simple or complex carvings are usually used for decoration, which is also called carved patterns in the industry.
Process 5: Assembly Process
The assembly of wood industry is called "labor saving", and the assembly of small parts uses a process called "barrel saving". "Save the bucket" is an industry term. Using tenon-mortise structure, many small wood can be spliced into various geometric patterns to form a large-area decorative board, which is called "material saving". A small piece of wood carved with a shovel is called a bucket. These two techniques are often used in combination, so they are called "barrel saving" and southern craftsmen call them "pocket materials"
Process 6: Grinding (scraping)
After assembly, it is necessary to scrape and grind the furniture surface, which is an important step in the process of making mahogany furniture. Many surfaces of the furniture we see need to be polished by hand. Generally, it is scraped with a scraper first, and then polished with finer and finer sandpaper several times, and the traces of coarse sandpaper will always be worn off. After scraping, the semi-finished furniture lines are smooth, the surface is flat without wave feeling, the texture is smooth and clear, and the hand feels smooth and comfortable.
