The importance of shadow play

It is the first batch of intangible cultural heritage in China.

Because cars, boats, horses, carriages and grotesque monsters in shadow play can all be performed, such as flying into the ground, stealth deformation, smoking and fire, falling into the sea, etc., and can also be accompanied by various shadow play stunts and acousto-optic effects, the fantasy scene of performing large-scale dramas is unique in shadow play.

Inheritance and development

Traditional shadow play has inevitable limitations in many aspects. This is the biggest obstacle for it to adapt to today's fast-paced society.

1, the shadow play is beautifully produced, and the ingenious color modeling has fascinated countless artists, but it has brought great difficulty to its production. The production of a filmmaker includes more than ten processes such as tanning, drawing, carving and coloring. These complicated processes are enough for a craftsman to spend weeks, not including the possibility that it can't be modified because of any small mistakes during this period.

2. The preservation of finished products is also a difficult problem. Long-term exposure to the sun will make the pigment fade, and the damp-heat change of temperature will also cause the deformation of shadow play. This is undoubtedly a fatal weakness for industrialized societies that emphasize mass production.
