The Classic Period of Hermeneutics

Study as a theory. Hermeneutics was initiated by German philosophers F.E.D schleiermacher (1768 ~ 1834) and W. Dilthey on the basis of previous studies. Schleiermacher devoted himself to the scientific and objective study of biblical hermeneutics, and put forward a universal theory to correctly understand and avoid misunderstanding, making theological interpretation a concrete application of the universal interpretation theory. Dilthey is regarded as a master of western traditional hermeneutics. He imitated Kant's Critique of Pure Reason, which laid the foundation of natural science philosophy, and put forward hermeneutics as a critique of historical reason. His central concern is how hermeneutics in a specific historical situation objectively understands other historical expressions. He believes that the principle of causal interpretation in natural science and the principle of understanding in mental science are fundamentally opposite, each with its own scope of application and not crossing each other. He also regards understanding in cultural phenomena as a process in which one life (the interpreter of a work) enters another life (the creator of a work). In other words, all social and cultural phenomena are equivalent to life expressions fixed in various symbols, and understanding these phenomena is equivalent to grasping the subjective spiritual world of symbol creators. In the west, all kinds of hermeneutics studies before Dilthey are often collectively referred to as classical hermeneutics. Other researchers who contributed to hermeneutics in the classical period included Fresi Uss, Spinoza, Clade News, Baumgarton, Meyer, Humboldt, Astor, Savigne, Michelle and Lee.
