Dancer in the Dark is a drama film directed by Lars Von Til and starring Bj?rk, Catherine Deneuve, David Moss, and Peter Stedman. The film tells the tragic story of a single mother working in a factory in a small American town in the 1960s.It was first released on May 17, 2000 in France.

Czech immigrant Selma (Bj?rk), who works in a factory in rural America, is a kind-hearted woman whose vision is blurring due to a congenital disease. In order to prevent her son from inheriting the disease, Selma works hard every day, and when her friend and colleague Lynda (Katharine Deneuve), who is unaware of the disease, gives her a kind word of advice, she always smiles, because she still has another world that belongs to music, and the beauty and quietness of it is enough to counteract the reality of the heartbreaks and hardships.

To her relief, she basically raised all the money needed for her son's surgery before she went completely blind, but just then, an accident occurred and her fate was accelerated into a complicated and tragic situation.
