Buddhism and Management
For example, the first chapter of the Aham - Nirvana Sutra,
Then the venerable Ananda stood behind the Buddha and fanned him with a fan. The Bhagavatam said to the venerable Ananda, "Ananda, have you heard that the people of Koshgari are always assembled together?" "I have heard of the constant assembly of the Yogeshwaras, Your Holiness." "Ananda, when the Echidnas are still assembled, then they will only flourish and will not decline. Ananda, have you heard that the Younger Ones meet, arise and are responsible for each other?" "I have heard that the Echidnas are united in one mind and one virtue, and that they rise up and are responsible for each other, Your Holiness." "Ananda, when the Echidnas are still one-minded and responsible, then they will only flourish and will not decline. Ananda, have you heard that the people of Yokohama do everything according to the ancient system of Yokohama, but those who have not yet flourished will not flourish, and those who have flourished will not be abolished?" "Your Holiness, I have heard that the people of Yokohama follow the system of Yokohama which has been handed down to them in the past, and that those who have not yet flourished will not flourish and those who have flourished will not be abolished." "Ananda, if the people of Yokohama follow the system of Yokohama which has been handed down to them in the past, and if they do not abolish the system of Yokohama, then they will only flourish and will not be in decline. Ananda, have you heard that the Echidnas respect and honor their elders and accept their advice?" "I have heard that the Yokels honor their elders and accept their advice, Your Holiness." "Ananda, when the Echidnas still honor and respect their elders and accept their advice, then they will only prosper, not decline. Ananda, have you ever heard that the Echidnas do not seduce the women of their own tribe to live with them?" "I have heard that the Yokels do not induce the women of their own race to live with them, Your Holiness." "Ananda, when the Yokels still do not induce the women of their own race to live with them, then they will only flourish and not decline. Ananda, have you heard that the Vietcongs respect and honor the shrines of their cities and towns, and do not abandon the rightful sacrifices that they used to make?" I have heard that the people of Yokohama respect and honor the houses of the gods of their cities and towns, and do not abandon the proper sacrifices which they used to make, Your Holiness." "Ananda, when the people of Eurasia still respect and honor the shrines of their cities and towns, and do not abandon the proper sacrifices which they used to perform, then they will only prosper and will not decline. Have you heard, Ananda, that the Yuejians have proper protection, defense, and offerings for the arahants, and that those who are far away will go to their own country, and those who are in their own country will live there in peace?" "I have heard that the Echidnas have proper protection, defense, and support for the arahants, and that those who are far away will go to the country, and those who are in the country will live there in peace, World Honored One." "Ananda, when the Eurasians still have proper protection, defense, and support for the arahants, those who are far away will go to the country, and those who are in the country will live there in peace, then they will only flourish and will not decline."
The above paragraph is about how to manage a country well, which is the same as managing a company well. There are several questions to be asked. First, is the company a democracy where things are discussed and not controlled by a few people or a single person (democracy)?
The second question is whether the things discussed in the meeting can be carried out (execution)?
The third question is whether the rules and regulations can be complied with?
The fourth question is whether the company is humane management, for the company to make contributions to the staff, the company to give due treatment?
The fifth question is whether the company's leadership has listened to the views of the community and experts and scholars?
The sixth question is the establishment of a moral culture within the company.
The seventh question is about moral responsibility to society, including the care of widows and orphans.
The eighth issue is the ability to protect the talent of those who need to work.
I think that if a company or a country can do the above eight things as the Buddha said, the company or the country is basically invincible.
On the internal staff cooperation, the formation of the overall strength, please refer to the Six Harmonies
The body and cohabitation, the mouth and no criticism, the intention and the same pleasure, the precepts and the same practice, see and the same understanding, the benefit and the same equal.
The first three are to focus every employee's mind on the company's general goal, to form the sameness of body, speech, and consciousness, followed by the rules and regulations to be followed by everyone, the unity of thought, and finally the principle of distribution of profits, and finally the fundamental place of the above.
