Derivative Image of Yan Qing

In Chen Chen's Water Margin, Yan Qing risked his life to enter the Jin camp to visit the captured Emperor Huizong, and was praised as a "loyal minister of the grassy fields" for his contribution of green seeds and yellow citrus. He rescued Guan Sheng in Da Ming Fu, and joined Li Ying and others to fight against the Jin soldiers in the Drinking Horse River. Later, he joined Li Jun overseas and was elected as the King of Siam, and was appointed as the Senior Pillar of the Siamese Government, and was authorized to draw and paint all secrets. Eventually, he was appointed by Emperor Gaozong of Song Dynasty as the Crown Prince of Siam and Marquis of Wencheng for the honor of saving the king overseas.

In Qian Cai's The Complete Tale of Speaking of Yue, Yan Qing was the king of Snake Mountain in Haiyan County. Song Gaozong took a boat into the sea to escape from Jin Wuzhu, and was captured by minions at Snake Mountain. Hearing that it was the Song emperor, Yan Qing ordered him to be kidnapped and chopped up, but he was angrily scolded by Li Gang, who was escorting him. He then sent the Gaozong monarch back to the sea and left them to fend for themselves.

In the Master of the Green Lotus Room's Post-Water Margin, Yan Qing was reborn as the Heart Moon Fox Host Drilling Insects All Over the Earth Jin Yin Shang Chi. In the sequel to 70 books Yu Wanchun's "Dangkou Zhi", Yan Qing guarded the back pass of Liangshan Po and fought with Ouyang Shoutong, and because the three passes had been lost, he panicked and did not have enough time to use his sleeve crossbow, and then he was hit in the fontanel by a whip, and died of a cerebral plasma eruption.

In Cheng Shanzhi's The Remnant of Water Margin, Yan Qing assisted Lu Junyi in assembling the Liangshan officer corps. He later returned to the imperial court and was authorized by Seed Shidao to be the commander of the left chamber of the Ching Sai Army.

In Ba Gu's "The Three Kingdoms of Thieves," Yan Qing advises Lu Junyi to retreat, but after being rejected, he repairs the letter and leaves. He eventually lived in seclusion with Guan Suo and Guan Feng in the Wuxi barbarians.

Zhang Henshui's "Water Margin New Tales", Yan Qing participated in the fight against the Jin Dynasty, and after the fall of the Northern Song Dynasty, he and Lu Junyi and other thirty-three people were poisoned to death by the traitor Fan Qiong with poisoned wine. In Chu Tongqing's Water Margin: A New Biography, Yan Qing was a northern hero who fought against the Liao soldiers in the north of Dai. He explicitly opposes recruitment and eventually leaves Liangshan with Mu Hong, returning to set up camp in Taihang Mountain to continue his rebellion against the imperial court. In the book, Yan Qing was close friends with Lu Junyi and had been betrothed to his cousin.

In Wang Zhongwen's Water Margin Farewell Tales of the Lesser Water Margin, Yan Qing, known as the Master of Kunlun, pushed the Bianliang villager Red Eyebrows Langjun Li You as the main leader, gathered 20,000 people, and revolted at Mount Guanghua in Yimeng. Later, he met with Wang Dingliu of Zhenleize, Peixuan of Taiping mesa and other righteous troops at Liangshan Mountain, and was pushed to be the vice-colonel of Liangshan Mountain, raising the banner of "resisting gold and fighting against Song".
