China Traditional Culture, Drama Culture and Time and Space Freedom of Drama Performance

Space-time freedom of stage performance is one of the unique artistic means of China traditional opera.

Western dramas mostly use relative time and environment to express plots and create characters. China traditional operas promote plots and portray characters in the free flow of time and space; Through the actors' performances, ever-changing plots and scenes are created on the abbot stage. For example, an empty stage can be represented as a square, street, courtyard or water, and tables and chairs can be represented as hills, bridges, clouds or indoors; A circus performer can represent a journey of a thousand miles, a few more drums can represent from late at night to dawn and so on. This "hypothetical" expression completely breaks the space-time and space limitation of the stage, enabling the audience to complete the aesthetic appreciation of drama art in the established association.
