Why is slave society a form of economic society, but not agricultural society, industrial society and information society?
Generally speaking, its main features are:
(1) Animal husbandry and agriculture are the main production undertakings. Slavery production mainly exists in these two sectors. With the development of productive forces, the position of agriculture is becoming more and more important. The productive forces on which the relations of production of slavery depend include the combination of early stone tools and bronze tools, iron-based manual labor in the later period, and the discovery and popularization of pulling plows and driving cars with animal power.
(2) Slave owners possess means of production and means of subsistence, including land and livestock, and at the same time possess producers, that is, slaves themselves. This led to the first great social division in the history of China, and the split between the exploiters and the exploited. Slave owners can sell their slaves.
(3) The main sources of slaves are prisoners of war and bankrupt freemen. Winners sometimes demote the defeated whole tribe (or clan) as prisoners and slaves of their own tribe (or clan), while retaining the original organization of the defeated tribe (or clan). With the development of the relationship between productive forces and commodity currency, bankrupt freemen and their wives and children have increasingly become the main source of slaves. The social status of slaves from different sources, regions and occupations varies greatly.
(4) consanguineous family system and rural commune system are still serious, which not only limits the full development of slave ownership of production relations, but also makes the slave ownership of production relations have traces of family system and rural commune system everywhere in its manifestations.
(5) The main handicrafts and the most important commodities are run by the slave-owning countries, and officials and slaves are enslaved. Privately run handicraft workshops and enterprises are also run by slaves.
(6) No matter in animal husbandry, agriculture or handicraft industry, all products produced by slaves are owned by slave owners. Slave owners give slaves the minimum means of subsistence necessary to maintain labor reproduction. Slave owners therefore occupied all the surplus labor of slaves.
(7) Generally speaking, the natural economy played a major role in the economic form of slavery. Because the big slave owners have a large number of slaves, they can run large-scale production enterprises that use more people and provide more surplus products for exchange. Therefore, the relationship between goods and money is more developed than in feudal society and early economic period.
(8) Under the situation that the mode of production occupied by slaves is dominant, there are still small farmers on state-owned land, farmers who own a small amount of land privately and a few small craftsmen in society. They are both free men and slave owners. They are exploited and oppressed by slave owners, and often lose everything and become slaves or hooligans.
