Literary writing to adhere to the core values appreciation

Literary writing should adhere to the core values

Nowadays, literary writing is faced with diversified choices, such as eco-literature, women's literature, popular literature, and network literature, etc. The expansion of multicultural horizons has updated the subject matter of literary creation, but it has also impacted the adherence to the traditional values of literary works. Under the wave of commercialization, literature has been inevitably tainted with the attributes of commodities. Driven by interests, writers' writing and readers' choices are more directly directed to utilitarianism. Direct utilitarianism inevitably brings simple and crude thinking. Nowadays, how to create literature with a more powerful posture to guide the readers' choice of value, from the phenomenon of interpretation to return to the human nature of reflection, from superficial utilitarianism to the deeper cause and effect, the core values of the writers still have to become the subject of the proper meaning of writing.

Core values have been the constant demand of Chinese intellectuals throughout the ages. From Confucius's "the scholar's ambition in the road", to Mencius's "to raise the spirit of the vastness", to the end of the Han Dynasty Chen Fan's "to clarify the world's aspirations", the Song Dynasty Fan Zhongyan's "to worry about the world first, after the world". The Chinese intellectuals of all times have taken morality and people's livelihood as their dual values. The pursuit of rationality at the ideological level and the responsibility for people's livelihood at the practical level are intertwined, constituting the dual cultural personality of the traditional Chinese scholars: on the one hand, the pursuit of advanced scientific and cultural thinking, advocating rationality, chastity and pride; on the other hand, they are also concerned about people's livelihood, and eager to build a career, and they have not regretted their nine deaths. It is this dual sentiment, intertwined with rationality and reality, that has sustained China's civilized history for thousands of years. Although this tradition has changed in the May Fourth period of modern times, the intellectuals' pursuit of morality has evolved into the aspiration for science and democracy, and the responsibility for people's livelihood has changed into the responsibility for salvation and enlightenment, the dual concern for rationality and reality is unchanged. At present, the transformation of modernity has brought about the pursuit of scientific rationality at a higher level, and the reality of people's livelihood has been highlighted as a deeper level of moral reflection on human nature. The dual concern of intellectuals remains unchanged, representing the most advanced scientific and technological level, ideological and cultural direction, but also caring for the fundamental interests of the general public, and becoming the core driving force of social progress. It is this dual concern that has kept the Chinese intellectuals of all times from detaching themselves from the reality of secular life and entering the so-called "quiet observation" level of Western rationality, unilaterally pursuing the cold scientific reality. It is this kind of moral feeling of caring for people's livelihood and learning from the world that has made Chinese intellectuals through the ages the spokesmen for the core values of the society, and the literary workers are the bulk of them.

The moral concern and political coloring of core values may seem incompatible with the aesthetic qualities and artistic spirit of literature, but this is not the case. Aesthetics is one of the many qualities of literature, and the concept of pure literature has its own specific cultural background. From the perspective of China's long historical tradition, the concept of literature exists in a broader sense, which includes not only novels, poems, and essays, but also historical documentaries, political texts, and ideological treatises. Traditional literature and historiography are also a family, the so-called "literature and history are not differentiated", and the so-called "six scriptures are all history", the four books and the five scriptures and other writings are the best of literature. It can be seen that the classic moral values of traditional society, that is, the core values of Confucianism, were disseminated through literature.

After the May Fourth Movement, modern thought was introduced from the West, and the division of literary disciplines became a major symbol of the break between modern thought and tradition, and the conceptual qualities of literature also changed. Aesthetics became the trend of the moment, and the writers' writing and readers' reading were tilted accordingly. Aesthetics was enlarged, everyday life was aestheticized, and the scope of literature was then expanded indefinitely. By the end of the twentieth century, literature seemed to have reached the end of marginalization. From this, we can see that, as far as the discipline is concerned, the meaning brought to literature by the infinite limitation of aesthetics is more of deconstruction than construction. Under the current multicultural background, literature, as a systematic and holistic activity, has more and more influence on the author's writing, readers' reading, and scholars' criticism, and its attention to social life should also go from the surface of daily experience to the deeper thinking about human nature and the essence of life. On the basis of people-oriented thinking, to eliminate superficiality, to return to tradition, and to find the roots of the nation in which to settle down, is precisely the rightful meaning of literary writing nowadays. The embodiment of core values in literary writing should also be on the level of people-oriented, looking for the traditional roots of the nation.
