In which year did the real archaeology in China originate?
1926. According to historical records, 1926, Li Ji, a modern archaeologist in China, excavated the Neolithic site in Yin Xi Village, Xia County, Shaanxi Province, which was the earliest archaeological excavation independently conducted by China scholars. In the following three years, Li Ji was hired as the director of the Archaeological Group of the Institute of History and Linguistics of Academia Sinica, and led and participated in field archaeological excavations such as Yinxu in Anyang and Chengziya in Zhangqiu, which shaped the embryonic form of the archaeological system in China, put the excavation work on a scientific track and produced the first batch of high-level archaeologists in China.
