How to draw snow scenes in traditional Chinese painting

The painting method of snow scene in Chinese painting is as follows:

China's landscape paintings, except for a long time when white pigments were used to describe snow scenes, were mostly represented by the original white of paper and silk. So when we say "draw snow", we can only say "leave snow", and draw dark trees, sky, streams and spots in the snow to set off the snow.

1, pen

Dip the brush in light ink and the center will outline the branches of two trees in the foreground. Dip the mountain horse pen in thick ink to outline the outline of the foreground rock and add a little twist; Dry the pen with the broken nib, with the nib facing up. The moss stands upright, showing grass and moss through the snow. Because snowflakes are light and slowly accumulate, as long as the snow is not deep, the residual grass on the ground may appear outside.

2, dyeing ink

Dip a long-flowing pen in light ink and slightly color the trunk of the foreground, so that there can be a light ink tone between the brush strokes of the original thick ink and the snow, without causing too strong contrast. Dip a long-flowing pen in light ink to dye the foreground rocks and gentle slopes. Everything covered with snow and exposed to light is white, but it is only dyed in dark places.

3, color, inscription, seal

The long brush strokes of cyan, gamboge and stone green are extremely light and bright green, and the whole picture is stained with the shade of snow-capped mountains. Use the pen in the same direction as the original pen, and occasionally add a few strokes in a particularly bright place to make the color of snow more changeable. As mentioned in the introduction of this picture, although snow has no color, it can reflect various colors with the surrounding environment.

Snow has no color, but it can reflect different colors with the environment. For example, under the blue sky, it will be blue; Dusk with rosy clouds will turn red; Cloudy weather may turn purple again.

Relatively speaking, the scenery in the snow has also been changed. Not only after the heavy snow, many things are covered and hidden, sharp and soft, roads become blurred, and houses seem to be shorter. And because of the contrast, the dark scenery becomes deeper, and the original white clouds look gloomy; The sky and streams are darker. Painters must master this feature and show the clean, bright and transparent feeling of snow.
