What is non-traditional security?

Non-traditional security threats are relative to traditional security threats, which refer to other factors that threaten the survival and development of sovereign countries and even all mankind except military, political and diplomatic conflicts. It mainly includes: economic security, financial security, ecological environment security, information security, resource security, terrorism, weapons proliferation, disease spread, transnational crime, drug smuggling, illegal immigration, piracy, money laundering and so on.

At present, the non-traditional security threats facing China can be summarized into three major threats:

1. The threat to life and health mainly comes from infectious diseases that are extremely harmful;

Characteristics of non-traditional security threats

1, transnational, the vast majority of non-traditional security threats are not a problem faced by a country alone, but when a country is under security pressure, it will also pose threats to other countries to varying degrees, even affecting the whole region or turning into a global problem.

The source of the threat is uncertain. The main body of most non-traditional security threats is not a sovereign country, but the behavior of some organizations or groups or even individuals. For example, the increasingly rampant international terrorism is a typical example.

3. Strong suddenness. Non-traditional security threats change rapidly and are highly mobile. With the continuous development of economic globalization and the rapid and large-scale movement of the world population, once some security risks spread, the difficulty and risk of control will increase rapidly.

4. mutual transformation. There is no clear boundary between non-traditional security threats and traditional security threats, and there is no insurmountable gap.
