History of Ragdoll Cats

Ragdoll Cats

In the huge cat family, the Ragdoll cat is a new breed whose ancestors were born in the 1960s in California, USA.

In the 1960s, California breeder Ann Baker coincidentally bred the earliest litter of Ragdoll cats, fathered by a male Birman named Warbucks and mothered by a white, non-purebred long-haired cat named Josephine. She said the cats felt "soft" when they were picked up.

Ann Baker then founded a breed society, but at the time the Ragdolls were not recognized by other societies. Since then, many more people have bred Ragdoll cats, and they were finally recognized in the United States in 1965,

which created the Ragdoll cat breed that is recognized today by the major mainstream associations. The success of the Ragdoll cat should be attributed to the need for a quiet indoor cat. Today, a number of similar breeds are being bred and all have cozy names.
