What inkpad did the ancient Yellow Emperor use?
The mineral raw material cinnabar (that is, Cinnabar) is ground into powder and mixed with water to make inkpad. However, after the Yuan Dynasty, people felt that the inkpad of cinnabar was easy to fall off after adding water, and began to blend with cinnabar with vegetable oil and plant fiber. As mentioned above, a typical traditional inkpad is made by adding ground cinnabar (mercury sulfide) to refined rapeseed oil and then mixing it with moxa.
