This is a collection of fables and children's stories that have conquered the world.

Different translations of The Book of Five Scrolls have traveled to every corner of the world, while the translation by Mr. Ji Xianlin is the only full-text Chinese translation of The Book of Five Scrolls.

India has produced the most fables and fairy tales of all the peoples of the world, and very few of the fables and fairy tales that are now popular all over the world did not come out of India.

The most famous collection of Indian stories is the Book of Five Books, which was used by the Indian royal family as a textbook for politics and cultivation, and is a treasure trove of wisdom.

The Five Books are divided into five volumes, including "The Breakup of Friends", "The Acquisition of Friends", "The Crow and the Owl Engaged in Peace and War", "The Loss of What Has Been Gained" and "Not Thinking and Acting", which is a must-read for the Indian royalties, among which the cultivation of the body, the family, and the rule of the country, and the wisdom of the man, the world, and the wisdom of friendships, philosophical aphorisms can be found all over the world.

The Five Scrolls were not only used to educate Indian princes on the principles of governance, but also for its interesting content to gain the love of ordinary people and used to learn the way of life.

The Shanghai Film Festival, where director Ang Lee appeared in June 2016, is of particular interest, and recently director Ang Lee's wonderful speech has also exploded in the circle of friends. From his speech, it can be seen that director Ang Lee is a filmmaker with a very deep accumulation of oriental culture, talking about the movie and culture, talking about the movie's exploration of the story, he once said: why do people have to trust in a storytelling structure to find wisdom? It's the story itself that's important, and the Hindu story is the best. Christianity or Buddhism, all lose to it ...... I think there is treasure in it."

The most classic work of Hindu storytelling is the Five Books. By sheer coincidence, the first half of "The Wilderness Hunter," starring Leonardo, who finally got his little Oscar, is the opening of the first story in the Five Scrolls.

Many people know that the Bible is the most translated book into foreign languages in the world, and second only to the Bible is the Five Books, a collection of fables and fairy tales written in Sanskrit. But when it comes to the influence of The Five Scrolls, Mr. Ji said, I am afraid even the Bible has to come second.

Why do you say that?

First of all, it is said to have come from a king in ancient India, who had three stupid sons "who had no interest in the scriptures and lacked wisdom", and a Brahmin "who was well versed in many matters and enjoyed a great reputation", who wrote The Five Scrolls. Book" and taught three princes the doctrine of dominion in six months.

The Book of Five Scrolls was therefore the textbook of Indian royalty. Cultivation of the body and family, ruling the country, dealing with the world and making friends, and all-embracing wisdom of life were thus circulated and "used to educate the youth."

Secondly, the literary value of The Book of Five Scrolls is highly recognized. A large number of folktales were collected in the Five Scrolls, and in the course of their distribution, they were repeatedly compiled and revised by literati and scholars, using a narrative style of serial insertion, a combination of parallel and scattered lines, and a large number of proverbs and aphorisms, giving it a grand narrative structure and filling it with rich flesh and blood, which makes it a classic work of literature.

But because of the scarcity of its Chinese translation, the Five Books are not well known to us, which is a great pity.

Chongqing Publishing House's hardcover reprint not only reproduces Mr. Ji's complete translation, but also includes a large number of illustrations of the Arabic translation from Pahlavi, which is simple, lovely, and quite exotic, making up for this major cultural shortcoming.
