Why is it difficult to turn the steering wheel of a car?

Reasons for steering wheel turning difficulty: 1. The steering gear or steering column bearing is damaged, resulting in heavy steering. 2. The meshing clearance between the pinion and the rack of the steering gear is too small and the steering is heavy. 3. The steering tie rod ball head is short of oil or damaged, resulting in heavy steering. 4. The booster oil is insufficient or deteriorated, so that the booster pump cannot provide enough booster, and the steering will naturally become heavier. 5. The circuit contact of the steering gear system is poor, which can't provide power effectively. 6. Insufficient air pressure in the front tire leads to heavy steering.

All the above problems will cause the steering wheel to turn very hard. At this time, it is necessary to check and repair in time.

Causes and treatment methods of steering wheel rotation difficulty

1. The bearing of steering gear or steering column is damaged: if the steering gear or steering column is damaged, the direction will be difficult to control, the steering will deviate, and the steering will be difficult. In this case, the bearing of the steering gear or column should be inspected and replaced in time.

2. The meshing clearance between the pinion and the rack of the steering gear is too small: the meshing clearance between the pinion and the rack can be adjusted by adjusting the screw in the center of the steering gear, which can not only improve the rigidity of the steering system, but also prevent the impact and noise from occurring during work.

3. Oil shortage or damage of the steering tie rod ball head: Oil shortage or damage of the steering tie rod ball head will lead to direction deviation, aggravate tire wear, steering wheel jitter, steering difficulty and other problems. The oil shortage of the steering tie rod ball head is mostly caused by the aging of the rubber sleeve, so it is necessary to check whether there is oil mark on the steering tie rod ball head position, and if there is, replace the rubber sleeve directly. If the tie rod ball head is damaged, just replace it with a new one.

4. Poor contact of the internal circuit of the steering gear system: In this case, the steering power sometimes fails, resulting in unstable power supply. In this case, just replace the steering gear.

5. Insufficient or deteriorated booster oil causes the booster pump to fail to provide enough booster: The shortage of booster oil is mostly caused by oil leakage from the steering gear of the automobile, because the oil leakage from the steering gear is due to the aging or damage of the oil seal in the cavity, resulting in lax sealing, thus leaking booster oil. Just check the joint of the steering gear upper cover, side cover and steering shaft crank arm for oil leakage. If there is oil leakage, directly replace the sealing ring on the parts. If there is no oil leakage, you can check whether the booster oil has deteriorated. If it deteriorates, you can directly replace the resistance oil.

6. Insufficient front tire pressure: If the front tire pressure is insufficient, the tire can be properly inflated.

What is a car steering gear?

Automobile steering gear, also known as steering gear and steering gear, is the most important component in steering system. The main function of the steering gear is to increase the force transmitted from the steering wheel to the steering arm and change the direction of force transmission.

Automobile steering gear is a mechanism with large transmission ratio, and its transmission efficiency is generally low. In order to reduce the driver's physical consumption of the steering wheel, it is very important to improve the transmission efficiency of the steering gear as much as possible, especially the positive efficiency.

Common categories of steering gear

Rack-and-pinion type: This kind of steering gear is a common steering gear, and its basic structure is a pair of meshing pinions and racks. When the steering shaft drives the pinion to rotate, the rack will move linearly. And sometimes the rack will directly drive the tie rod to steer the steering wheel.

Rack-and-pinion hydraulic power steering gear: Compared with rack-and-pinion mechanical steering gear, rack-and-pinion hydraulic power steering gear is a steering device which mainly adds steering oil pump, steering oil tank, steering oil pipe, steering valve, steering cylinder and other components to improve the driver's hand feeling and increase steering power.

Worm crank pin type: this kind of steering gear is a steering gear with worm as the driving part and crank pin as the driven part. Because the worm has trapezoidal thread, the finger-shaped tapered finger pin is supported on the crank through the bearing, and the crank is integrated with the steering rocker shaft. When steering, the steering wheel drives the worm to rotate, and the tapered finger pin embedded in the spiral groove of the worm rotates around the steering rocker shaft at the same time, thus driving the crank and the steering arm to swing, and then steering the steering wheel through the steering transmission mechanism. This kind of steering gear is generally used in trucks with large steering force.

Circulating ball type: This steering device is a gear mechanism, which slows down the rotating force from the steering wheel, turns the rotating motion of the steering wheel into the rotating motion of a worm, meshes the ball screw nut with a steel ball, turns the rotating motion of the ball screw into a linear motion, and meshes the nut with a sector gear, turns the linear motion into a rotating motion, thus shaking the connecting rod arm, and then the connecting rod and the tie rod make a linear motion to change the direction of the wheel. This is a classic mechanism. Most modern cars are no longer used, but the latest power steering device is applied.

Knowledge expansion

With the rapid development of automobile industry and the continuous improvement of people's requirements for comfort and safety, the steering system is also changing with the development of science and technology. Electric power steering system is a frontier research project in the steering industry. According to its layout, it can be divided into column power, gear power, rack power, pull rod power and electro-hydraulic power.
