Cultural Characteristics of Xiushan Lantern Square

The reason why it is called Lantern Square is related to Xiushan's unique traditional culture. Xiushan is a Tujia and Miao autonomous county. After generations of hard work and social practice, Tujia people not only created their own material conditions for survival, but also created culture and art with national characteristics. Especially after the land reform in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1736), they absorbed a large number of advanced cultures of Han nationality and other nationalities, making their culture and art more colorful. Xiushan Lantern Festival, waving dance, shaking eight buds, drum up, dragon dance, Yangxi, boatman's trumpet, Xiushan folk songs and so on. The rich and colorful minority cultures not only show the wisdom of Tujia people, but also make some contributions to enriching the multi-ethnic cultural and artistic treasure house in China. Among them, Xiushan Lantern is the most prominent, and it is listed as the second batch of intangible cultural heritage by the state. Xiushan county government fully considered the cultural characteristics of Xiushan and named the square Xiushan Lantern Square.
