The Cultural Heritage of Shakouji Township

The weaving and dyeing process of the local cloth remains in Shakouji, Wei County is rough and exquisite, and it is rich in the simplicity and freshness of traditional handmade works of art. This traditional homespun weaving and dyeing, now known as "Weixian homespun weaving method", began in the Song Dynasty, flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, flourished in the early days of the founding of New China, and lasted until the early 1980s. Shakouji Township in Wei County has a long history of homespun weaving and dyeing. According to historical records, before 1980, almost all farmers had spinning wheels, looms, spinning threads and weaving, and rattles were ringing all the time. "The girl is eighteen, weaving and spinning flowers, and her mind is clever. Find a good husband's family. " The ingenious Weaver Maid has inherited the textile skills from generation to generation, and created more than 200 patterns of striped and plaid fabrics, forming distinctive local characteristics, which not only has high practical value, but also has precious cultural research and collection value. After the 1980s, under the impact of modern textile industry, this kind of homespun weaving and dyeing stopped spinning, the loom was laid off, and the dyeing house was closed, and folk weaving and dyeing gradually faded out of people's lives. When people once again realize the multiple values contained in homespun weaving and dyeing, the historical clock has pointed to July, 2005, when the census personnel of the township government went to the countryside and farmers, visited the weaver girl, searched for homespun, looms and spinning wheels, and quickly launched a special action to rescue folk weaving and dyeing. In June, 2006, "Weixian Native Textile" was listed in the first batch of intangible cultural heritage protection list in Hebei Province.
