The influence of ancient Egyptian architecture and furniture on ancient Rome

Pictographs, obelisks, cobras, pyramids, lions, crocodiles and other patterns with Egyptian characteristics, as well as Egyptian furniture, are all used for decoration. The sphinx also lost its monk-like calm attitude and became unpredictable.

The introduction of Egyptian worship encouraged the Romans to adopt Egyptian-style decorative themes. The decoration of triangle table is a famous furniture product of Isis Temple in Pompeii, which is a mixture of Greek style and the sphinx that decorated the temple wall.

Moreover, the triangular wall related to the goddess Isis and the triangular lintel with an arch at the top have finally become common decorative themes in western architecture and furniture design.

Style characteristics:

Ancient Roman furniture was luxurious in style. Although influenced by Greece in modeling and decoration, it has the heavy and dignified style of the ancient Roman Empire. Greece is famous for its lightness, while Rome focuses on solidity and slowness. The furniture is exquisitely carved, especially with die-cast figures and plants.

Animal-foot-shaped furniture legs are stronger than those in Egypt, and the characteristics of rotating wood are obvious in the repeated deep groove design. Commonly used patterns are eagle, winged lion, goddess of victory, laurel of the moon, rolling grass and so on. In its heyday, chairs, tables, couches and other furniture items were all made of bronze or marble.
