Brief introduction of Weichi temple site

The Neolithic site of Weichi Temple, located about 200 meters east of Biji Village, xutuan Town, Mengcheng County, Anhui Province, is a well-preserved primitive social settlement site dominated by Dawenkou culture in China. Anhui team of Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has carried out 13 excavations since 1989, and within the range of 10000 square meters, * * * cleared 78 traces of houses, more than 300 tombs and a large number of ash pits and sacrificial pits. Nearly ten thousand precious cultural relics, such as stone tools, pottery, bones and mussels, have been unearthed, which provides very important information for studying the primitive social history of northern Anhui.

Four or five thousand years ago, the natural landscape around Weichi Temple was very beautiful. The stream is gurgling, the trees are lush, and all kinds of animals wander in the Woods by the river, swimming for food. Our ancestors thrived in this fertile land, created rich and colorful ancient culture with hard hands, and left us a precious historical legacy. Through excavation, this ancient site, which has been sleeping for 5,000 years, has regained its brilliance, showing the development level of people's life style, life culture, ideology and social productivity at that time with its unique cultural features.

According to legend, it was built to commemorate Wei Chijingde, a general of the Tang Dynasty, who stationed troops here, so it was called "Weichi Temple".
