What does warehousing mean?

Warehouse logistics refers to the use of self-built or leased warehouses and sites to store, keep, load and unload, carry and distribute goods. The traditional definition of warehousing is given from the perspective of material reserve. Modern "warehousing" is not "warehousing" or "warehousing management" in the traditional sense, but warehousing under the background of economic globalization and supply chain integration, and warehousing in the modern logistics system.

With the development of logistics to supply chain management, enterprises increasingly emphasize the unique role of warehousing as a resource provider in the supply chain. A warehouse is no longer just a warehouse for storing goods.

The change of warehouse role can be summed up in one sentence as the change from warehouse to distribution center. The essential difference between traditional warehouses and distribution centers is that warehouses focus on managing space, while distribution centers focus on managing time (that is, the turnover speed of goods). So the essential difference between them is that the distribution center manages both space and time.

Warehousing is also the main application center of modern logistics equipment and technology. The integrated management of supply chain is realized by the application of modern management technology and scientific and technological means, and efficiency promotes the integrated operation of supply chain. The application of advanced scientific and technological means and equipment such as software technology, Internet technology, automatic sorting technology, photoconductive sorting, RFID and voice control technology provides conditions for the improvement of warehousing efficiency.
