The Essence of Chinese Studies: The Hundred Schools of Thought

Executive Summary: Zi Xue, or the study of the hundred schools of thought, is the most important part of Chinese studies. It is the most important part of the national education. It constitutes the national education with the scripture, history, and collection of studies***. The broad sense of ZiXue contains four categories: religion, philosophy, science and art, while the narrow sense of ZiXue refers to the academic trend of the hundred schools of thought in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Periods. ZiXue demonstrates the high level of philosophical discernment of our Chinese nation, reflecting the thinking of many sages on the universe, society and life from different angles.
